4 Used Car Tips for College Students

I know our college students have already began their studies, but if your child is in college now, or is planning to go to college next year and they need a car, I have sound advice for you today about college students and cars.

I have to tell you that I’m not a big advocate of having a car in college. But there are situations where one is needed. So instead of waiting till the last minute to find one, start your search now.

Here are 4 tips to get you the best deal.

#1: Buy used.

Buying a used car will save you thousands of dollars compared to buying a new car.

#2: Keep the gas mileage in mind.

You want a car that will give good gas mileage, but you don’t want a car so small that it will be unsafe and get crunched if your student is in a fender bender.

#3: Look for current pricing online.

Check out sites like Craigslist, eBay Auto and others to get a feel for the pricing. Your local newspaper is a great resource as well.

#4: Get insurance quotes.

Once you have narrowed your search down to a few choices, call your auto insurance provider and get quotes on the insurance premiums. Consider the cost of insurance in your buying decision.

And whatever you do, don’t rush into a buying decision.
