5 Tips For Moving Without Being Scammed

5 Tips For Moving Without Being ScammedAre you planning to move in 2014? If so, you know moving can be very stressful and expensive. And if you are not careful, you could end up getting scammed.

Here is one common scam that can happen to you…

A mover comes to your home and gives you a lowball quote. Then once they load your stuff in their truck, they add on a pile of fees and hold your stuff hostage until you pay them.

So what can you do? I suggest doing it yourself, if possible. But when you can’t do it yourself…

Here are my 3 tips to help you avoid being scammed:

#1: Ask your friends and family for referrals first. Especially those that have recently moved. You can even ask local real estate agents in your area.

#2: Set up appointments for them to come to your home to give you an estimate. If they won’t come, hang up and call the next one.

#3: Get at least 3 moving companies to give you a quote, before you committing to a contract.

#4: Research the 3 companies by checking online reviews, and checking in with the Better Business Bureau.

#5: Ask lots of questions before signing on the dotted line.

Remember, these are your personal belongings. You want them to be treated well, without getting any financial surprises.
