How To Save Money On Sunglasses

How To Save Money On SunglassesIt’s almost summer again, and as usual, designer sunglasses are all the rage. If you are in the market for a new pair of sunglasses… why spend $500 for a pair of Pradas? When you can get something a little more realistic, that’s probably just as good.

Here are 3 things you need to know before buying your next pair of sunglasses:

#1: Know that most sunglasses are made by the same company.

An Italian outfit by the name of Luxottica manufactures about 80% of the world’s sunglasses. They claim brands like Oakley, Ray-Ban and Revo. Some of their licensed brands include Dolce & Gabbana, Polo, Versace, Prada, Burberry, Channel, Coach and more. So the cheaper $20 pair of sunglasses you find might be the same quality as the $200 brands.

#2: The most important feature when selecting sunglasses is the UV protection.

You’ll want a pair that blocks both UV-a and UV-b rays, which are most dangerous to your eyes. For a little more money you can get Polarized lenses, which will add more protection. Otherwise, other features do not have much value.

#3: Get your insurance company to pay for them.

I suggest you ask your optometrist to see if you can get prescription sunglasses. Most insurance companies will cover 50-70% of the cost.
