Last-Minute College Scholarships

Do you have a kid who will be graduating from High School next month? Or do you know of one?

If you do, there was a survey from Sallie Mae that you’ll find interesting.

Sallie Mae discovered that half of senior girls shopped for more than 2 weeks for a prom dress. And half of senior boys spent 2 weeks or more deciding who to ask to the prom.

But when it comes to figuring out how to pay for college, nearly half of seniors spent 5 hours or less figuring out how to pay for it.

If your kids fall into this category, here are three last minute tips to help you and your kids pay for college:

#1. Have your kids ask for money or college tuition donations as graduation gifts, instead of clothes, electronic gadgets or a car.

#2. Be sure to complete your kids’ FAFSA right away, that’s the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Go to fafsa.ed.gov to get started today.

#3. Search for college scholarships online. Remember, there are many scholarships available that are not tied to financial need or grades. You can start your search at: http://go.salliemae.com/scholarship.
