Time To Check Your Credit Score

As we start a new year, it’s in your best interest to check your credit report. At a minimum you should be checking your credit annually. But personally I think it’s best to take a look at it every 4 months to protect against identity theft.

So here is what you need to know:

AnnualCreditReport.com will give you free access to your credit report from each of the 3 major credit bureaus once a year.

When you log on to the site, enter your state and click request report. Fill in all of the required information which will include your social security number, past addresses and loan information.

Then I suggest you get your Equifax report first. Then in May get the free report from TransUnion and in September get the free report from Experian.

Now once you get your report, the first thing you will want to do is look for any signs of identity theft. Look for accounts that are not yours or are unfamiliar to you.

Next search for any errors in your personal information and employment history. And finally look for any errors in your loan payment history.

If you happen to find errors, contact the credit bureau and dispute it right away.
